My inquiry question is how can I use texture and color to show the beauty of nature? So for this project I really wanted to use a material that created texture which is oil pastel. I haven't used oil patel in my work because I don't like the texture and the blending is always a little tricky for me. I picked a picture that I took while I was in Hawaii. This project relates to my life because it is a picture that i took and a place I got to physically see.
The only material I used in this project was oil pastel. I first started by printing out a picture to the same size as the paper I was working with and then taking a HB pencil and pressing down where I wanted to out dark colors (the power lines). The I started with the sky and got a bunch of different shades of blue and also grabbed a white and started to layer the colors so that I would look like it wasn't just one color. After that I added the white in circular motions so it would look like there was some depth and layering to the clouds. Then I moved down to the mountains and then grabbed some yellows, oranges, greens, and browns because those were the color I could see in the ground and wanted to try and make it look as realistic as possible. After I was done I just went over the pencil marks where the power lines are and went over them with black oil pastel.
I experimented with the process when I decided to use oil pastels because I was trying something that I don't usually use and don't really like to work with. I think my project started to look better when I added more colors and layered the different shades of colors. I think If I were to do anything I would work on my blending and paste the project onto a black piece of paper to make a border.
