Creative Color Study

I created a color study painting with 12 individual colors. I used a 2B pencil, silver and white oil sharpies, and the three primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) plus black and white to create my 12 different colors. I used the 2B pencil to outline my entire idea out on the piece of stretched canvas. And oil sharpies to outline all of the triangles and snowboard to make it stand out even more against the white. I used outlining and painting in this piece. Outlining for spacing and sizing the triangles. And painting to color the snowboard and the 84 required triangles. To add interest to my composition I outlined the snowboard, triangles, and the letters in a metallically, shiny, silver oil sharpie. I also organized the triangles in a way so it made it look like they fit together. I incorporated contrast and balance when I would have my 3 shades of darker colors next to my 3 lightest tints so the darks and lights would be spread out. This completed work makes me feel proud because I was surprised at how well the finished piece looked. I learned that it takes a lot of layers to hide your brush stroked but its worth it because it looks better in the end. In future pieces of art I don't want to use so many colors so there would be a distinct difference and make it easier to recognize a common object. I added my own original style by putting the snowboard in the middle so draw eyes to the center.
