I got this paper with the ink blots on it and i originally thought that the dots could represent each Hawaiian island and I could draw in the other ones, but then I decided to make the scale much bigger snd turn it into one part of the island of maui. I recently took a trip to Hawaii and spend two weeks on maui and it was the most magical place ever. I absolutely love it there. I think that this piece very much represents me because all the dots I put on the island were the names of the towns I went to while I was there. I first put one inch masking tape around the edges to create a one inch border and then I used a water colors and painted all the stuff on top of the water color paper. After it was dry I went back in and added more detail and color. I knew what i wanted to do and what material I wanted to use when I first got my paper so it wasn't much of a struggle to figure our what to do with it. I think that my project would've come out better if i hadn't painted the whole background first. I think if I outlined where I wanted my islands and things to go I would've been able to add more color and have it really show. I think if I were to keep working on this piece my next steps would be to go in with get pens or paint sticks and all a lot more color and add a lot more detail to brighten up the artwork.
