"Festive elephant"

8" x 11"

The story behind my work is I have a memory of watching the Thanksgiving Macy's day parade and seeing a big ballon elephant all dressed up. This relates to my life because it was the first thanksgiving I really remember and the first year I could understand the animals and what was going on in the parade.

I started sketching in my sketchbook and I tried a bunch of different types of elephants and other animals and then decided on this one. I got grey toned paper and got some different types of pencils and sketched it out. Then i added color with water color pencils and blended it together. After I took a black water color pencil and went over the elephant and added wrinkles.

I think the only experimenting I did was trying to figure out which animal to do. My project evolved from being a messy sketch in my sketchbook to a finished work. I think to continue my project I would cut out the elephant and make a new background.
