This is a picture of my grandmothers dog Bella. She adopted her from a rescue about 3 years ago when she was a puppy. When i go to my grandmothers house Bella follows me everywhere. I wanted to create a representation of her and the background is supposed to represent happy colors because she's always really perky and energetic. I used gray toned paper and oil pastels for the majority of it , and afterward I took black india ink and a calligraphy pen and made all the little dots. I also used the india ink for the eyes to make them less gray and more black as well as the nostrils on the nose. I printed out a picture of B and first sketched it out on the toned paper and then went over it with the appropriate colors to create he brown white and gray aspects of the dog. I think that before I added more layers of oil pastel it was bland and you could almost see the toned paper if you looked hard enough, and by adding more material I think it made the colors richer and the piece stronger. If i were to add to this I think I would want to cut the dog out and paste it onto a better background maybe something with more detail.
