Inclusion

"Monkey Playground"

The idea I was trying to show in my work was inclusion. I painted a playground that you would find in a regular school yard. I then decided to put monkeys on it because I thought that the monkeys could represent "disabled" people and that it would show inclusion because they were on a playground for humans. This project related to my life because I have a friend that has a physical disability that keeps her from being able to do things that other kids do.

I used watercolor paint for the background and the swingset and slide house combo. For the grass and the sandbox and monkeys I used acrylic paint pens because they drying pretty opaque which is what I wanted. Then I went in with fine point pens and outlined all of the objects on the playground and I also used it to draw the faces on the monkeys.

I think my project evolved when I went back in and added detail to all of the elements on the playground. My nest steps would be adding more monkeys doing things that interact with the playground and each other and also adding real life humans with the monkeys to make the message more clear. I would also paste it onto another piece of paper and create a border.
