I created a portrait of of a woman inspired by Kathe Köllwitz. In my piece I used pencil to sketch out before I went over the lines with a fine point black black sharpie. After that I used water color to add color to the face. Some techniques I used are outlining the face, painting over that, and sketching under all of that. A couple of elements that I used in my work are color for the face, value by making some areas darker than others, and space by centering it in the middle of the paper, and figuring out how to space features on the face. To add interest I used contrast or stronger colors. And emphasis to show the depth on the face. This artwork is about a depressed woman. The completed work makes proud because I can create something that isn't from this generation and still looks somewhat relatable to that time period. By creating this project I learned that layering the water color is really important to show the high and low spots. In the future I want to try using oil paint to have stronger and richer colors. I added my own original style making the face features colorful.
