"Toxic Climate"

9" x 12"

December 6th, 2019

I tried to show the before and after pictures of what our planet is going to look like if we don't get climate change under control. the left side is supposed to show a healthy day and night landscape and the right is supposed to show the toxic day and night landscape of the same image. This project relates to my life because I used pictures from my phone of places I have been. I chose to make tis because I really liked both pictures and I thought that they were an accurate representation of day and night in Maine.

First I cut out 4 rectangles, all the same size and then sketched out in pencil where everything to go. Then I went back in with colored pencil and felt tip pens and added layers and layers and detail. I also used white and black acrylic paint instead of gel pens because it was easier to layer. After that I took black and white paper and weaved them together because there wasn't high contrast in the art itself I thought it would make it look better by having a high contrasting background.

I actually made two versions of this work but the first one was not as developed and strong as this one because I didn't push the detail. I think that by cutting each illustration out and pasting it onto different paper it made the work a lot stronger and drew more attention to the work itself. I think I would go back to the night illustrations and push the detail with darker blues, purples, blacks, and browns, and add more prominent starts and constellations to the sky using white and light yellow.
