Sustained Investigation #3

"2050"

6" x 9"

January 20th, 2020

In my work I wanted to show how people are just kissing the earth away and not doing anything to stop damaging our world. I wrote the numbers "2050" because that year is the year that scientists have predicted will be the year of no return. When we can't change the damage we've been doing to our planet. This project relates to my life because it is something that I'm very passionate about and something that I would like to see change. I chose this because I like the message I created. How some people are just kissing the earth away and not realizing the damage that we are doing and how it won't look the same in 30 years if we don't start doing something now.

The materials I used in this project were acrylic paint and pencil. I used the pencil to outline the person and her facial features, and then to draw a circle which I would make the earth. I then used fluid acrylic paint (so the consistency was like water) and mixed colors to paint the person and the earth and the background. Since my susainted Investigation question is: How can I use color and texture to bring more awareness to climate change? I thought it would be smart to add texture by not brushing out the paint clumps and leaving the brush strokes messy.

I actually made two projects one was in colored pencil and the other was in acrylic paint. I chose the acrylic paint one because I liked it better and I had painted my other two so I wanted to kind of keep with my trend. I think my project evolved when I added a background. It made everything in the foreground stand out more which I think helped a lot because it look pretty boring. I think my next steps would be tightening up the face and making the facial features stronger.
