Our Disciplinary Policy

My name is Jordyn Williams; I am a 10th grader at Carver HSES. What does it mean to strike out and how does it affect athletes more than anyone else at our school? I’m trying to find that out. Come along with me while we investigate.

can you picture ?

Imagine walking through the hall to the gym and hearing everyone chanting your name as the starting 5 walks on the court. You're on the side lines as the 7th minute in the 4th quarter turns to the last 2 minutes and team needs you to hit the game winning shot. Alas, you're on the sidelines because you STRUCK OUT!

What to Expect ...

In my upcoming podcast I will be addressing our schools disciplinary policy and how it disproportionally affects athletes or students involved with extracurricular activities. Our three strikes policy needs to change and we are the only people who can get it done. Not only have I interviewed numerous athletes from our school but I have interviewed multiple students from schools in Philadelphia. I am proud to say I have a ton of material that I am ready to share with all of you . But throughout this process, I can’t say it was anything less than challenging; being a journalist is way more than just the finished product. It's the journey it takes just to get that one break in a story that soon turns into a dead end. Or even being up all night researching, but then changing the point of the story. For this podcast, finding people willing to expose the truth about the problems they see in their disciplinary policies was a struggle as well as being open to speak out and on the record. But what I hope comes from this podcast is common ground and understanding. If you're interested in hearing more about this, tune into my podcast titled “Disciplinary Policy” which hits your air waves the first week in April. I hope you all tune in.
