In a previous article for the Carver Times, I spoke about vaccines in Philadelphia, PA and what our city does to ensure that citizens are vaccinated. Being a student in a Pennsylvania, I know what records and documents are needed for a child to remain enrolled in school. In “Influences on the anti-vaccination- explained,” I spoke about these requirements and how the things that encourage parents to not vaccinate children are extensive in our culture because of social media along with health insurance.
One surface barrier to a parent getting their child vaccinated is health insurance; it is why some parents hesitate to get their children vaccinated. That is not only what provides uncertainty for parents. Social media presents ambivalent accounts of vaccines, making it a bigger obstacle for doctors to keep their patients vaccinated.
As big of a problem as it is for someone, especially a child to not have health insurance, there are many programs put into place to help families afford health care, such as CHIP and Keystone first , which are affordable health care plans to prevent predicaments of children not being vaccinated. These easily accessible resources prove that the main barrier to children being vaccinated is the media influences that persuade citizens to think that vaccines are dangerous for their children more than these diseases are.
During this time in our society where deathly diseases can be prevented with just one vaccination, there is a political resentment for citizens who choose not to vaccinate their children. The spreading of misinformation has pushed a toll on the progress vaccinations, reversing the progress vaccines have made on eliminating these diseases.
