Uniform policy and dress codes are a touchy subject at here Carver since most students, including myself, don't adhere to it. Dress codes were first established in schools in 1969 by the U.S. Supreme Court. Uniforms didn’t start to become widespread in public schools in Philadelphia until the 1990s.

Almost every school has them. Can't wear this. Don't dress like that. Your collar isn’t straight. This is too revealing. What you're wearing is inappropriate. Your shirt isn’t tucked in. Your pants are too tight.

But why enforce these rules? Students don't shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gates. There have been literal lawsuits over this issue. Students also can't wear whatever they want out of the house. Why control what students wear in school? Shouldn't parents teach their children what is and what isn't appropriate to wear? Shouldn't the students know? Dress codes are believed to maintain order in the school environment but do students really need them?
