My name is Adaya Head, and this is an intro to my podcast investigating blocked sites at schools.

After googling a lot of random sites, I discovered that at Carver you cannot go onto Facebook. I'm aware that Facebook is a simple and easily accessible social media site that not a lot of people in our generation use (because let's be honest, we have found way better sites and apps nowadays). But I do know that a lot of teachers here still use Facebook to connect with old students, and they may find it difficult that Facebook is blocked when they're at work. Some people may not even be aware of this change, but when they do become aware, it will affect the ways in which they can communicate.

This is a screenshot taken from Carver's journalism teacher Ms. Puntel. Slack is a site that teachers like her use to collaborate with other teachers across the nation. She uses this site strictly for educational purposes, but recently, it has been blocked for her at work. Disgruntled, Puntel has sent an email to the district to request that she may be allowed to use this site again. For now, she is still waiting for an answer. It is interesting that even teachers have issues with blocked sites, especially since she claims that this site is used mostly for school-related activities.

For this investigation in journalism, Ms. Puntel had the entire class send out "Right to Know" requests. The screenshot above is part of the email response I received from the district. There are a few names and offices here that I could do additional research on for my study. I believe I can even contact this "Kimberly Dutch" person and see if I can receive any more information at an earlier date. As for now, I am still initiating interviews with people until I receive anything else from the school district.
