What does this graph say about video game use and violent crime? The data might surprise you. Video games are a powerful form of entertainment. Games, in whatever form, are vital to us as we work on big problems, solve complex puzzles, and collaborate. The element of competition, the social aspect, and the digital media all combine to make video games one way many of us choose to entertain ourselves.

Music and mood

In class we’re doing a project where we speak with kids across America. We talk to other high school students about important topics. Last week I interviewed high school students from Coppell, Texas. I wanted to know if entertainment was important to them and what effects they think it has on them. These responses from the freshmen students speak to both the power of music and the power of money in the entertainment industry.

Every student agreed that music affects your mood. One student thought that soft toned music leads you to a calmer state, while harder music with loud instrumental or beats while make you more aggressive. I think the student has a point but his argument could be better.

Movies will make the movements of the future

I also asked students about their thoughts on the future of entertainment. He responded by saying that movies will always have a big impact on people. He believes that in the coming year movies will continue to start movements.

Money and influence

In the future I see entertainment mainly being used to generate revenue, just as it is used today. Obviously it will also be used for people to get certain messages across. Directors will make movies that hold specific values for instance the groundbreaking movie, The Black Panther. Musicians will do their fair share of influencing, too. All in all entertainment will continue to blossom, having its everlasting effects.
