It’s third period and the middle schoolers are having lunch. Officer Mike, the school security guard, is sitting in the library monitoring the “yellow shirts” who are buzzing with excitement. We approached him--apprehensively-- fearful of interrupting him from his work. “Would you like to do an interview with us for the Carver Times?”, we asked him. It was clear that the library was way too noisy to conduct a proper interview, so he suggested we go to a small room connected to the library. There, we asked him if he would be open to answering our questions about black love and he eagerly complied. Officer Mike delivered passionate and compelling accounts about how black love has impacted him relationship and community wise.
