How does music affect you brain?

Music affects everyone. And aren’t you curious about what that student sitting next to you in Chemistry is listening to? Sharing music and asking each other about what we’re listening to brings us all closer together as a community. Carver, what are you listening to? How does this music make you feel? This column seeks to answer just that.



How does music affect your mood or attitude?

Senior: Music is really influential . So when I listen to a song I feel connected it. Depending on the song is the outcome of how my mood will feel. But I think music affects your mood the most when your listening to a playlist that gives off one mood.


Is there a particular artist you listen to when you're sad ?

Nasir : Yes, I like to listen to Drake when I’m in my feelings . He’s known to make music about love or relationship problems, and this usually would make you more sad. So I guess people like to listen to music that matches with their current mood.

Does music ever affect your decision making?

Maniyah: I feel like it does to a certain extent, but not too much. If I’m in my feelings about a guy and a female singer's song says something along the line of "don’t be in your feelings," I might push my emotions to the side.

How does music affect you work performance?

Nasir: Music affects my work performance because it can help me focus . When I Have a lot of school I work to do I put in my earphones and listen to music.

Seniors, we need music for our emotional health; it's a part of our everyday life. Just like two students explained to me that music can affect their current mood, for better or worse. As we prepare for college we should think about how important the music we listen to is to us. Sometimes that right song can be what pushes us through a tough day.
