We are proud to share that one of our Year 12 students, River has had a poem published by Young Writers—a national platform that celebrates creative writing by young people across the UK.
This is a fantastic achievement that recognises both talent and dedication to the craft of writing. Congratulations on this well-deserved success! We look forward to seeing even more creative work from our students in the future.
A Moment to Breathe
On the top are the sages who dare to toil and turn,
The expect from you a moment of mourning,
Though when it's your turn they claim it’s something you didn’t earn,
Shunned you shall be your soul forever drowning,
Life at the bottom is a battle of attrition,
We bare chains of disadvantage,
Always lacking true nutrition,
Finding time to stop, breathe and see the sun we cannot manage,
We just want to be free,
We get rejection from mankind,
You charge us some random new inflated fee,
The rich get richer and the poorer only want a healthy mind,
Break free and fetch the bolt cutters,
SNAP goes the chains that held us down - the powerful elite down the gutter,
Now we and the world have a moment to breathe,
No longer must we seethe,
Birds sing in the trees,
This is now the land of the free,
Our today juxtaposes our yesterday,
We can all now live our teenage dream,
Or bathe in the glistening sunshine,
The world now the peoples oyster,
Now we have broken away from our blueprinted designs.
