We were extremely fortunate to have an actor from The Globe Theatre in London do three workshops with Year 11 students in the hall. She talked to them about London and Britain during Shakespeare's time and about how the Globe theatre was used to put on performances of Shakespeare's plays, and how the current reconstruction continues in the same vein.
Then the students were treated to a 60-minute workshop, where they were expected to interact with parts of the text of Romeo and Juliet, which they study for GCSE. It was a very interactive experience, focusing on the Prologue, violence between characters and familial relationships. A superb revision tool and fun experience, experiencing Shakespeare in a less rigid classroom format.
