In September a group of Year 10 History and French students enjoyed a 3 day trip to Brussels, Belgium where they got to experience the history and culture of the city. One their first day, students visited the Atomium, a 59 foot stain steel clad sphere that depicts nine iron atoms in the shape of the body-centred cubic unit cell and the centerpiece of the 1958 Brussels World's Fair.
On day two, students had their own personal guided walking tour of the city and explored key buildings, culture and history from an expert and lots of steps were completed too, with a chocolate shopping treat at the end.
This was followed by a Commonwealth War Graves visit to the Brussels Town Cemetery. Here students learnt about the importance of the Commonwealth War Graves and explored who the soldiers were, where they came from, the war they fought in and the battalion they were part of. On this visit our students showed great respect and maturity as well as some fantastic questions and engagement.
On their final day they visited Mini Europe, a unique miniature world of Europe and its major cities. This was followed by a delicious visit to Concept Chocolate Factory where students learnt about how chocolate is created and most importantly got to taste some amazing fresh belgian chocolate.
The trip was rounded off with a bit of shopping before heading home!
