Friday 14th February 2025
Dear Parent / Carer,
'Carpe Diem', Latin for 'seize the day', will form the theme of my assemblies when we return after half-term. You can see in the range of stories and celebrations in this newsletter that so many of our students have been seizing and enjoying an array of opportunities during the course of the last few weeks. The spring term half-terms are always shorter than the autumn; but they are just as busy, and we have much to celebrate as we draw to a close for a well-deserved break.
As ever, we will look forward to the next event, the next challenge and the next celebration when we return on 24th February. I would encourage all of our students to reflect on Robert Frost's notion of 'Carpe Diem'; that we should seize tomorrow, not today:
'But bid life seize the present?
It lives less in present
Than in the future always,
And less in both together
than in the past. The present
Is too much for the senses,
Too crowding, too confusing -Â
Too present to imagine.'
Wishing you all a restful half-term break,
Julie Jones
