On 30th January OSA students attended the GCSE Poetry Live event, the event including readings from some of Britain's best poets. Simon Armitage has a superb ear for language and he read his wrom from the anthology. The students met John Agard who gave an exciting performance in contemporary poetry, combining historical awareness, cultural insight and extraordinary humour.
The poets responded to students questions and discussed how poems connect to and influence other poems.
The examiner session reviewed how students can deal with unseen poems in the exam, how to think about them and how to write for the best possible results.
A further session looked at comparing poems, whether they studied poems or unseen, and how to write most effectively in either situation.
These sessions were invaluable to our students.
