This week, our school marked Numeracy Week with a special focus on Money Management, and it was a huge success! The Maths Department led the way with daily assemblies aimed at helping students understand the vital role mathematics plays in everyday life—especially when it comes to handling money. From budgeting and saving, to understanding interest and the cost of living, we showed how strong numeracy skills are key to making smart financial choices.
Throughout the week, students are encouraged to reflect on their own progress in maths and are reminded of the importance of attending support sessions, completing homework consistently, challenging themselves, and most importantly, believing in their ability to improve. We aimed to inspire confidence and a positive attitude towards maths across all year groups.
The highlight of the week was Numeracy Day on Wednesday 21st May. During maths lessons, students took part in a range of creative and engaging money-themed activities designed to make financial literacy both fun and relevant. From solving real-world problems to exploring the maths behind shopping, saving, and planning a budget, students saw how classroom learning connects directly to life beyond school.
Numeracy Week was a brilliant reminder that maths is not just about numbers on a page—it’s about empowering young people to make informed decisions and thrive in the real world.
