After arriving late in the evening to Galicia, the students quickly immersed themselves into Spanish life for the week by attending Spanish school and staying with Spanish host families. At school they have helped younger students with their English as well as taking part in the normal lessons a Spanish school conducts. It was very interesting for the students to see the differences in teaching methods compared to the UK.
The students integrated with the host families who made everyone feel incredibly welcome. The students have experienced what it’s like to engage in everyday life in Spain and to witness the diverse lifestyles and rich culture.
Initially, some students stayed in a villa with OSA staff but were very soon asking to stay with the Spanish friends they had made at school. This transition gave the students a huge confidence boost and meant they were able to deeply engage in the Spanish way of life even further.
Students have attended surf school which all the students thoroughly enjoyed, visited the city of Vigo, swam in the sea and took a boat trip to Cies islands alongside lots of other activities with their host families after school.
A number of students have received invitations from their host families to return for summer, creating strong friendships.
Overall, this has been an incredible opportunity for the students and staff and we look forward to next year’s return trip!
