A heartwarming end to six months of support, growth, and confidence-building.
Yesterday marked the finale of the BEE Mentoring Programme, where thirteen students and their dedicated mentors came together for a celebratory afternoon of bowling at Hollywood Bowl in Stevenage. This event marked the end of a successful six-month journey of mentoring, reflection, and personal development.
Throughout the programme, students met regularly with their mentors to discuss their goals, challenges, and progress. The impact of the mentoring has been truly powerful. Many students expressed how valuable it was to have “someone neutral who didn’t judge,” and “someone lovely to talk to.” For some, it provided “time for me” and a space where “someone listened and didn’t make me feel stupid.”
The mentoring also helped students build confidence, especially as they look ahead to their next academic challenges. One student shared, “I am actually looking forward to Year 11 now and feel more confident.” Another noted that they now feel they “have clarity and can think straight.”
The programme wasn’t just about emotional support—it also gave students practical tools and personal insight. When asked what they had learned, students said:
“It’s okay to not be okay.”
“That it’s okay to ask teachers for help and not be afraid to speak up in class.”
“To keep going and not give up.”
“To be yourself, to always try my best and be more willing to give new things a go.”
“I’ve learnt how to talk to someone new and I loved it—I'm really sad it’s all over.”
We are incredibly proud of all the students who took part and so grateful to the mentors who gave their time, care, and encouragement. The BEE Mentoring Programme has once again shown how powerful a listening ear, thoughtful guidance, and consistency can be in helping young people thrive.
