Learning Objectives:

Which activity would you rather do to help you remember the names along with the order the planets are in for your science class?
Activity 1: The teacher asks each student to come up with a mnenomic device to keep them for their personal use to study with.
Activity 2: The teacher holds a contest for the group that can come up with the best rap about the planets.
In my opinion, I think activity 2 is the better option. It gets the class engaged to where they can have a lot of fun while doing work. The contest would make students competitive to where they would work harder.
This is one example of traditional teaching (activity 1) and culturally responsive teaching (activity 2). Traditional teaching methods stick more of to a routine unlike culturally responsive methods, you never know what you're going to get.
What is Culturally Responsive Teaching?
Culturally responsive teaching is often referred to as culturally relevant teaching (Burnham, 2020). Culturally responsive teaching is all about recognizing the cultural differences of students in the classroom. It uses different students' cultures or experiences and connects them to what is being taught inside the classroom (Culturally Responsive Teaching: Introduction, n.d.).

How does someone incorporate culturally responsive teaching into their classroom?
Incorporating culturally responsive teaching in the classroom is an essential practice. There are many ways to incorporate culturally responsive teaching into the classroom, but one of the most important things to take into consideration is to get to know your students. In order for students to feel comfortable, they must have a connection with their teacher.
It is imperative for an educator to make sure that students do not feel as if their teacher has any bias toward them. There need to be opportunities for parents to be involved in their child’s academic life (Ferlazzo, 2020).
It is also important for students to be taught the real-life events that are going on in the world around them. Being aware and informed of the events around them will make students feel more connected to the community as well as their teacher (Culturally Responsive Teaching: Introduction, n.d.).

How does culturally responsive teaching affect all students?
Culturally responsive teaching is a type of individualized instruction that is built to benefit all students (Culturally Responsive Teaching: Introduction, n.d.). It can even better students' lives for the future by the fact that when students are educated about different cultures, it makes their range of knowledge more diverse.
Culturally responsive teaching benefits everyone due to the fact that it allows people to gain a better understanding of the world around them, which they can use in their daily lives (Burnham, 2020).
Conclusion:
In the article, 5 Culturally Responsive Teaching Strategies by Kristen Burnham (2020), classrooms have changed to be more diverse including race, culture, and languages. I believe that future educators should make it a priority to incorporate culturally responsive teaching into their curriculum or classroom, even though it is a very difficult thing to do and be able to execute correctly (Ferlazzo, 2020). Based on the information I reviewed, culturally responsive teaching makes students feel more represented in their community, which can lead to better academic performance. Future educators should understand the definition of culturally responsive teaching, how to enforce it, and how it will affect or benefit the students in their classroom.
