I have spent most of my life growing up in Singapore, a small island full of energy and various cultures. My favorite memories from that time were when I celebrated all of the holidays with my friends. I was also spoiled when it came to having access to excellent street food wherever I went on the island. When we had to leave Singapore, I had a tough time adjusting to the American public schools and the lack of spiciness in my food at restaurants. When I joined the swim team, I fell into a routine that kept my mind busy. Through the high school swim program, I became a swim coach, where I discovered my love of teaching.
When I am not busy making my school life a lot harder than it needs to be, I watch historical documentaries, anime, or attempt to paint in watercolor.
Finally, I am a firm believer that everyone should travel to a new country at least once in their life.
A Quick Look at Some of the Places That Have Influenced Me
When I become a teacher, I know that I need to be active in the classroom and outside the classroom. What happens outsides the classroom can determine how the student sees their relationship with their learning. If teachers do not understand these external influences, there will never be a strong connection between them and the student. Another major factor about teaching is cooperation with other teachers. People don't understand how crucial it is to have teachers know how to work as a real team to support the students. Collaboration is what holds a school together and paves a stable pathway for students' future success.
In Order to Become a Better Educator I have Made a List of Goals to Accomplish
Learn how to ask for help when I am struggling even if I feel like I will look like a fool
Become more organized when planning out my study schedule
Support myself the way I have supported those around me my whole life
Improve my technological abilities to be prepped as a virtual teacher
I will aim to create a healthy environment in my classroom between the students and me and the learners themselves. The classroom environment plays a crucial role in how students view themselves and their education, which is why I will be primarily relying on progressivism as my teaching philosophy in the classroom. Teaching kids about working together and setting aside differences in a peaceful manner is critical for future success. Many adults struggle to maintain healthy methods of collaboration. Introducing ways of problem-solving and collaboration to children at a young age can give them the confidence to handle any problem outside of the class.
