What is Project-based learning?

Why is Project-based learning important for students?
Project-based learning, also known as PBL, can improve a students problem solving skills. When a student is completing a project they tend to retain the information a lot more than if they are being lectured on a topic. It is a lot easier to understand something by doing it yourself. Most students find that when something is completed by they, themselves, they understand more of a meaning behind. Things mean more when you have completed them.

The information provided in this video below, by Researchers in Michigan, Project-based Learning: Raising Student Achievement for all Learners, is very helpful. Please watch the first 60-90 seconds of this video to get a batter understanding of the impact that PBL has on students and teachers!
How does PBL benefit teachers?
As teachers, it is important that we know as much as we can about each of our students learning techniques and abilities. Project-based learning can be a great way to get to know how your students operate when given a lesson or project. It also helps the teacher leave a mark on a student when an impact is made through learning.
