By the end of this lesson students will be able to:
Define what intrinsic motivation is, and its benefits.
Explain some ways to stay intrinsically motivated.
Intrinsic motivation is the completing of a task simply because it is fun or challenging rather than for the end result or reward that comes from it. According to Journal of educational psychology, Intrinsic motivation is positively related to achievements and participation(Gottfried, 1990). Intrinsic motivation allows individuals to do things that they want to do, which makes the outcome what they do more successful.
examples of intrinsic motivation include:
Playing a sport because it is fun rather than because you want to win a trophy.
reading a book because it is interesting rather than because your parents said they would pay you to read it.
learning a new skill because it is fun and not because you are required to for a job.
going to the gym because you want to be healthy and not because society says the way you look is not ideal.
