My name is Samantha Lewis, but just about everyone calls me Sami. I am a senior (maybe?) here at ODU and I am an English Major with Teacher Prep. I also work for the Recreation and Wellness Center on campus as a lifeguard!
I am a first-time cat mom of a year and six months to an angry little man named Gus! When I'm not busy with him or in class, I can usually be found at the stadium with my marching band friends. I am a two-time captain for the color guard and hope to return to it next semester as well!
P.S. I have a twin sister!! You may see her on campus and believe she's me! I promise we're not identical.
I did marching band and color guard all throughout my high school and now college experiences. Since these were credited classes, I was able to connect one of my largest interests to school and what it meant to not only be a good performer but a good student. It takes a lot of time and effort to not only have homework each week but several hours of practicing!
Last spring I had the wonderful opportunity to choreograph two separate routines with another guard captain for the Virginia International Tattoo as part of the Virginia Arts Festival. We worked extensively for several months with a director and other music and event staff to produce two amazing scenes in the show. We worked hard, and I couldn't have been more proud of the students I helped teach!
P.S. I taught a fellow TLED student here, hi Hannah D!
I grew up with the heavy influence of my grandmother being a librarian, so books were definitely my cup of tea! I know that my classroom will be a reading haven, and I hope to inspire my students to read more books (yes, even digital copies)
I'm originally from Arlington, VA, which is quite different from Norfolk. While I did spend time as a Navy brat in California, Oklahoma, and Japan, most of my life has been spent in Arlington.
I'm so used to being a student that I have no idea how to interact with other adults as the teacher. Guess there's no better time than the present, right?
