Hi, my name is Maggie Goodwyn. I am currently an ESOL instructional paraprofessional for Stafford County in Virginia. I included this picture because for the past 2 school years this is the face my students see. If they happen to see my outside of school without a mask, they don't even recognize me. I love what I do and strive to do it the best that I can. I'm on my 4th year at my job and I cannot see myself doing anything else so here I am at ODU pursuing a BS in education. I plan to use everything I know and will learn to become the best teacher I can be.
I'm originally from Bayonne, NJ but as a military spouse ended up in Virginia. I never left. I love it here and have set roots here. I've lived in Woodbridge, Hampton, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and now finally Stafford. My husband, David, and I have 3 amazing children and a spunky 2 year old Labrador. We love to travel and try new foods. Complete foodies.
I will be the teacher I always wanted to have. I will be compassionate, empathetic, determined yet flexible, and invested. I will have compassion for my students so they know they can always come to me. I will be empathetic because I know everyone has a path and a journey. My path and journey isn't the same as my students so I will be there for them so the know they can come to me. I will be determined to be the best teacher I can be for them. I will be determined to help them achieve their goals and succeed in all they set their minds to. Regardless of my determination I will also be flexible and willing to adapt to them. We don't all learn the same way so I will learn to teach them in the way that best fits them. Finally, I will be invested in them. They are my purpose.
