Dr. Kidd's page is intended to give you ideas for how to construct your page, it is not intended to be an exemplar.
You can change the size of a text box by dragging the little blue dots.
You can insert pictures, videos, google slideshows, etc. You can also create content outside of the wikibook and embed it. This works better for some tools than others. If you are using a different site/tool/app to create content, I recommend you try to embed a sample artifact first before you spend hours creating something special only to discover it doesn't embed the way you want it to.
What I Know: how to make my Bitmoji dance
What the heck all these abbreviations the kids use? What the heck is FML? Oops!! Now, I know. SORRY!! This is why I need to learn!
I need to learn how to navigate China better
I need to learn to cook a wider variety of foods. Well, just looking to cook generally would be good too!
(I've inserted an "Image Carousel". It rotates through a series of pictures. To see it in action, click on the preview button at the top of your screen.)
I will become a teacher who helps teachers learn engineering and computer science so they can prepare their students for the future.
This is an image carousel. I selected the images from my Google Drive and set it to start automatically and to switch images at medium speed.
I make decisions in my classroom based on my personal convictions about education.
PARTICIPATORY CULTURE: I believe we need to prepare our students to be active contributors to our digital society. In my classroom, my students create their own textbook and share it with the world.
GETTING UNCOMFORTABLE: I believe learning requires work and a willingness to admit ignorance. This is often uncomfortable. As a teacher, it is my job to bring students into uncomfortable spaces, and to support them so they can successfully navigate to greater enlightenment. We spend a lot of time in my class talking about privilege and discrimination.
CUSTOMIZATION: I believe choice is motivating! As a teacher I want my students to have to make decisions about their own learning and choose a path that will be most fulfilling. In my class, students select their own topics and tools for our major project. Students have hundreds of different extra credit opportunities to choose from.
RESPONSIBILITY TO OTHERS: I believe in collective responsibility. No one is an island. As teachers we are the most responsible people on the planet for teaching children to interact respectfully and to value diversity. Students need to be taught their responsibility to others. We need to teach them! In my class, students are required to participate in class discussions (online or in person!)
I want to prepare students to be active contributors!
Learning is often uncomfortable. It's being willing to be vulnerable, and admit you don't know everything. As I teacher I need to embrace my responsibility of creating uncomfortable situations.
I believe in giving students options, so they can customize their learning experience to best meet their needs.
I need to teach my students that they have a duty to help their classmates learn, to share their ideas and stories, so we can all better appreciate diverse perspectives.
