Who I am:
Background:
I was born and raised in Virginia Beach and went to public school growing up. I am currently 23 years old and my pronouns are she/her. I am the youngest to 3 girls in my family and the first one to attend college. I am a very quiet person but once I get to know someone its hard to get me to stop talking.
Education:
I am currently a junior at ODU getting my bachelors in Elementary Education. I transferred here in 2020 after completing my first two years at TCC.
Influences:
I would say my teachers have influenced me to become a teacher. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in elementary school because those teachers taught me so much of what has made me into what I am today and who I plan to become as an adult.
What i know:
I know that school can be a scary and stressful place for some children and teachers can really make school a better place depending on how they teach and invest their time in helping these students.
I know that all students learn at different paces and it is important to know which students need more instruction and practice. for me, I needed that extra practice and time to really understand and retain everything that was being taught and it really helped me in my early education.
What i have to learn:
I have to learn to manage my time better since I will have set deadlines for turning in assignments.
I have to learn to have more patients since I will be working with young children who are not aways going to understand something after seeing it once.
I have to learn to ask for help if and when I need it because I will not always have an answer to a question that I am asked by a student.
The teacher i will become:
I will be a teacher who gets to know my students and make sure that I leave a positive impact on their school careers.
I will be a teacher who challenges students to do their best and help them succeed.
I will be a teacher who is someone these children can go to if they are having trouble with anything whether it be school related or not.
I will be a teacher that these students will look up to and remember when they get older.

Hi Mikayla! I like how your future goals include really getting to know your students and factoring in their everyday lives and needs into their education. It is so important for students to know that they are supported and loved in order for them to get the most out of school. Best of luck!

Good work Mikayla, love how you want to be more than just a teacher to your students, but someone they can model after. Being a teacher who cant teach students more to life than what's on a curriculum is super important. Loved the page, and awesome work!
I really like your outlook on becoming a teacher and the design of your page. I agree with your point about how teacher's can change student's experiences entirely and can make a major positive impact. Great job! -hardy
