What I know
I believe that teaching requires you to participate in politics. Public policy can change a teacher's day dramatically. Also, city planning will directly change how and where students live and how schools are districted. It is important to be an active member of your community and invested in all areas of your community improving, not just your students.
I know I want
My future students to understand their place in their local community and the world at large. I know I will make an effort to teach my students what questions to ask and where to get the information to have their needs met.
What I have to learn
How to make lessons accessible to all students in the classroom
How to make expectations very clear to allow my students to be successful
Transitioning between activities
Good methods for formative assessment
Something new every day
THE TEACHER I WILL BECOME:
I think the purpose of school is to prepare children to interact with the world around them, but this does not have to be boring. I believe in Progressivism and want my kids to learn how to interact with their classmates and the world outside of the classroom. I would like to challenge them to solve problems. I identify a lot with Social Reconstructivism and the idea of inspiring my students and making them see the world around them and want to change it. However, I see a lot that is valuable in Essentialism, Perennialism, and Existentialism. It is a little too early for me to say that I will focus on even any two philosophies. I want my views on teaching to evolve and improve with knowledge and experience.
I want my classroom to be fun and engaging. My students will play and design strategy games to learn new topics. My class will pick a year long experiment to work on. I want my classroom to highlight the goals my students have set for themselves.

Hi Eleanor I really enjoyed the layout of your page it is so creative and interactive! I too am a nanny and teach 3 year olds over the summer it is my favorite age! I loved your section "I know I want" I thought that was a great idea to add to your page and agree with you on how important it is for kids to be involved in their local communities. I too need to learn how to make lesson plans that are suitable for all students.
Hi Eleanor! I enjoyed your layout and the creativity. I also believe that the purpose of school is to prepare our babies for the outside world, I want to learn how to make lessons that all of my students will be able to interact and partcipate in, I want all of my students to be successful. Good luck this semster! - Deana Manning
-Also I couldn't figure out how to add it to the comment section so I just added it here :)
