Who I am
My name is Hardy, I'm 20 years old and I want to be an elementary school teacher. I was born in Florida but I moved around a lot growing up, mostly around different parts of Virginia. My mom has been a school psychologist for 35 years and I grew up in and around schools a lot. In high school I had roughly 200 hours of community service involved with counseling and education. After majoring in economics for my freshman year of college I decided to transfer to ODU and switch majors to pursue teaching.
What I know
I want to share positivity with my peers and especially my future students. I know so many people who have walked away from their experience in public school feeling extremely negative towards it. People should walk away from their education feeling good! I think the foundations of helping future students enjoy learning is by helping them when they first start out, which is why I want to teach younger students.
What I have to learn
I think the biggest thing I need and want is experience. That's one reason I'm very excited for doing an observation in this course. I volunteered a lot while I was in school and I tutored high school online during quarantine but I haven't been able to do in person experience for a long time.
The teacher I will become
I think the purpose and goal of school is to create a high average level of education among all people. The more equally educated our society is, the more equal it is on the whole. The most important thing for students to come away with from school is the ability to learn and master. Not just their individual studies but all things in general, school should produce people who are good at learning new things. I want to help students achieve this by guiding them through the basics, the foundations of learning in elementary school. I would like for my students to walk away from class valuing the power of a positive perspective and having a good time to make learning more effective. I think people learn best in progressivist learning environments. Focusing on children's natural inclination for play and exploration is the best way to develop their minds for learning and mastering skills.

Hi Hardy! I've only been to Florida once, and that was last year when I turned 21. It was also my first time in a plane. With all the moving what place has been your favorite? I started my freshmen year majoring in dental but later realized teaching is what I wanted to do. - Deyalit Ayala
Hey Hardy! My freshman year of college I was a nursing major and realized where my real passion was. Positivity is very important, no matter what grade is being taught. I definitely agree that people should leave the classroom feeling good, no negativity. -Arlissa Williams
Hardy, I also switched my major to pursue teaching. What was the ultimate reason you decided to switch? And I agree with you on the fact that the biggest thing needed is experience. We can learn everything we need to know about teaching but we will really start learning once we put ourselves in the teaching position. -Ivy Powell
Hi Hardy, I am also very excited about having our classroom observations this year! I have never been able to work with students before or be in a classroom, so this will be a great experience for us all! -Cassy Hixson
Hi Hardy! I also did some observations before, but nothing much since the pandemic. The more experience, the better we will be and I can not wait! - Payton Collins
Hi Hardy! I am looking forward to teaching in an elementary school as well! I feel that I have noticed more and more that students struggle with positivity and it makes me very happy to see that it is so important to you. I also believe that equal experiences most benefit each individuals education as they grow. - Alexis Knudson
