Dancing Through the Years
My name is Alayna Vilardi, and I was born in South Carolina. My father is in the military and resulting from this I have lived in six different states that have all contributed to my personal development. Dance is my passion and I have been pursuing it for around seventeen years now. I have grown up practicing, performing, and competing in the dance field. I am also a Christian and have found a love for serving and teaching others. This, along with my passion for dance, has played a great role in shaping me into who I am today, stirring in me a desire to be a dance teacher.
What I Know
I see that the purpose of school is to provide students with the knowledge necessary to become valuable members of society and to pursue whatever future career awaits them. As a dance teacher, I will get to play a unique role in this process. My students will learn many things, but I believe that some of the most important include proper dance technique, cooperation skills, and how to communicate well. They will learn these skills by actively participating in class and creating community there. I will provide teamwork, creativity, and confidence strengthening educational experiences for my students. My students will value kindness and encouragement as well as strengthening their dance abilities. I will interact with my students with kindness and authority, and they will interact with each other respectfully and as equals. Choosing a philosophy that best describes me as a dance teacher is difficult because dance is not taught in the usual classroom setting. I would say that Perennialism might come the closest to describing my views on teaching dance because it is very important to teach the proper technique that has long been established. The word that best describes me as a teacher would be "encouraging", while the word that best describes my students would be "blossoming". If a visitor walked into my classroom, they would see students who are active participators and a teacher who is a kind but strong guiding hand.
