Who I Am?
My name is Victoria Beasley. I am 38 years old and previously was a District Manager of a Medical Supply Company for over ten years. I had begun college quite a while back for Elementary Education and put it on hold for my medical career. We recently moved to Chesapeake due to a military relocation. I had been contemplating returning to college and made the decision to return last year and began my first semester at ODU in August 2021. I am married and will be celebrating my 20th year anniversary to my husband in May. I have a daughter who is 15 and a son that is 6. We are also licensed foster parents. I grew up on a farm in a small town in Georgia and plan to move back there following my husband retiring from the military. I enjoy running, crafting, reading, and spending time with my family. I love everything about Christmas and have even purchased land in Georgia to open a Christmas tree farm. I grew up in a small Baptist church and feel that my faith has kept me grounded and gives me strength. I believe that children are our future and look forward to teaching.
What I know.
My first job was with Boys and Girls Club of America. They serve children of all walks of life. Most of the students in my program were in foster care. These children just needed someone to care about them and this taught me a lot about compassion and respect. Later in life it also inspired me to become a foster parent. I understand that children are exposed to circumstances out of their control and just need someone that is there for them. I understand encouraging children helps to inspire them.
What I have to Learn
I believe that learning never ends. The saying you learn something new every day is very true. As a future teacher, I have to prepare myself for changes in many aspects and have the ability to learn new methods to improve overall learning. I want to continue learning new features with technology that can be implemented in my lesson. I hope to learn new ways of teaching topics that keeps children engaged and interactive.
The Teacher I Will Become
I hope to become a compassionate, inspiring, innovative teacher. I want to teach life skills that will follow a child into adulthood. I want to teach students problem solving skills so that they can begin learning how to handle problems at a young age. I want to be the teacher that collaborates with co-workers to help develop the best strategies to promote learning. I want to be an engaging instructor who students look forward to learning from. I want to teach topics that involve active participation from students so that they are actively involved in their learning. I believe I will have a perennialism and progressivism philosophy when it comes to education. I enjoy teaching classics that will last throughout time and teaching children to problem solve.

Hi Victoria! I really enjoyed your page! I think your work with the Boys and Girls Club of America is really inspirational, especially since it led you to become a foster parent! I can only imagine the amount of time and love you put into taking of your foster children, and it is something that should truly be applauded! I plan to have a perennialism and progressivism philosophy as well. I believe that certain information, such as how to know fact from opinion, is extremely important to pass down to students because it won't only help them in school but in many different aspects of their lives! -Victoria Santana

5. Hi Victoria, it was so nice reading your page! I think it is great that you have decided to return to elementary education as a career. You seem like a very caring person and I agree with you that children work best from positive reinforcement. They are more likely to want to do well in school if they feel their efforts are appreciated. Progressivism is mainly the educational philosophy that I would also like to implement into my classroom but I do agree with you that classics would be enjoyable to teach. - Mallory Hodges
6. I admire you for being a licensed foster parent, so let me begin by saying thank you for that. Also, I know someone in Maine who has a Christmas tree farm and I think that is so cool! Good luck in your future endeavors! - Samantha Reveche
