I am Deyalit Ayala and I am a senior at Old Dominion University. My major is Elementary Education. I entered college wanting to be a dental hygienist but shortly realized that is not what I wanted to do. I am from Northern Virginia in a city called Woodbridge. I graduated from Woodbridge senior high school. The community I grew up in was very diverse and exposed me to different cultures and gave me insight to see people for who they really are rather than assuming. My friends and family are a huge part in my life and helped me become the strong, independent, and truthful woman I am today.
This is my dad side of the family. I love them all so much. I'm the baby on this side haha (:
In this picture, it's my parents and I. This was from my Freshman year at ODU. I stayed at the Virginia House of honors.
These are my lovely cousins from my mom side! On my mom side we are all closer in age so I'm not the baby. We love going out
Lastly, this is my family. My two parents, and 2 older sisters(:
My favorite animals are dogs and pandas.
My zodiac sign is a gemini(:
I have 2 tattoos, one on my arm and the other one is on my spine.
I LOVE chipotle<33
I am fully Salvadoran but have never been to my country :(
I have 2 older sisters but I love to consider my best friend as my 3rd oldest sister haha.
How to be empathetic
It's important that you listen to understand rather than listen to respond.
It's okay to make mistakes.
Don't be afraid of change.
Connecting with your students is very important.
I know how to make my classroom a welcoming environment for all types of students.
I know that equity is very important in a classroom than equality.
I have to learn more about being confident in my ability as a teacher.
How to say NO.
How to stop procrasinating :(
I have to learn how to integrate different forms of technology in the classroom.
I need to work on my eye contact when speaking.
How to create lesson plans that give students freedom and their own choice.
Learning which classroom management styles I find most effective and comfortable.
My educational philosophy is a mix of progressivism and social reconstructionism. I will focus my class based on student-centered teaching. I will focus on their needs, abilities, interests, and different learning styles. I want to become my student's gardener. It's funny because my mom is the biggest green thumb person I know, and she has always taught me so many things in life that I will be able to share with my classroom. I want to create a safe environment for all my students and will strive for more equity rather than equality. The purpose of education is not just about academics, but to help build character and open doors to different opportunities in ones' life and figuring out the "what's next" part. Martin Luther King Jr. states "Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education". I want to be the teacher that students talk about 10+ years later about how I played an important role in their life decisions and accomplishments.
Paige Hawthorne- I love the way your page is organized and the cartoons included are so cute! The things mentioned in your "what I know," especially about making mistakes, will be so useful when becoming a teacher your future students will be so lucky to be taught by you! I was having trouble opening your last link, but that could be user error, maybe offering short directions on how to open the link would be helpful!
I also have problems with procrastinating and eye contact. I feel like everyone has at least a little problem with procrastination and also I know my eye contact while being in front of class might be a little bad. I also saw that you are from Woodbridge and understand that you definitely came from a very diverse area. My favorite mall is Potomac Mills and whenever I go there, I see a very diverse cross section of people and I think for you growing up in that area will help you get through to all your students. -Isaiah Allen
So I dont really have a problem with eye contact but I do have a problem with procrasination. I know for sure that is something that needs to change about me before I'm let out into the world starting my career. Procrasination is literally a devil lol, but we will learn another route and become GREAT teachers. ~ Janiyah Johnson
