Hello everyone! My name is Alayna. I am a 22-year-old senior English major here at Old Dominion University (Go Monarchs!). I am from Richmond, Virginia. I feel like there are many different things that have contributed to shaping me into who I am today, such as my family, friends, and different experiences that have occurred throughout my life. I used to live in Boston, Massachusetts for a large chunk of my childhood before moving back to Virginia. That being said, I feel like experiencing that environmental change at such a young age helped mold me into the woman I am today. I was able to experience being taught in two different states, and I met and befriended people of all different races and personalities. What influenced me to want to become a teacher other than my niche for English would be my love for children! Throughout the years, I have had a few teachers that left a mark on me. I would love to be able to do the same for my future students.
I aim to become the teacher that I have always wanted to be taught by. I want to be a teacher who is patient, encouraging, and knowledgeable. I feel like the purpose of school is to learn, while also gaining social skills. School allows students to use their critical thinking skills as well, which is an important skill to know both inside and outside of school. Students learn these things through peers, teachers, and their families. I hope to provide my students with an educational experience that is entertaining, but also fundamental. I hope that my students value working hard and just being an overall good person. I am going to interact with my students in a way that is welcoming while also implementing boundaries. I want my students to interact with each other in a respectful manner, because I plan on interacting with them in the same manner. The two philosophies that I feel best describes my intended teaching style would be a mixture of Progressivism and Essentialism. I would describe myself as "The motivator" and my students as "The motivated". If a visitor were to walk into my classroom. they would walk into a classroom filled with children who are excited to learn and happy to be there.

Hello: I am not able to leave a comment in your comments box so here it is. The google slide was great but text is pretty small with a bit of content and it went by pretty fast. It would be easier to add a few more slides allowing the content to be broken up a bit or make the slide show larger in size. I love that you broke your name down at the top so that we were able to say it! Thank you.
Also, I love your positivity in what you hope to be when you are a teacher. Hopefully after this class you will see more "I will be..."
