Graduation Requirements

Credits

A student must earn a minimum of 21 credits to graduate. Credits must be earned in the following areas:

· English – 4 units of credit

· Social Studies – 3 units of credit (including World History, US History and Government)

· Math – 4 units of credit (including Algebra 2 or Equivalent)

· Science – 3 units of credit (including Physical Science, Biology and Advanced Science)

· Health - 1/2 unit of credit

· Physical Education – 1/2 unit of credit

· Electives - 6 units of credit

Five elective credits must include one or any combination of foreign language, fine arts, business, career-technical education, family and consumer sciences, technology, agricultural education, or English language arts, mathematics, science, or social studies courses not otherwise required.

All students must receive instruction in economics and financial literacy during grades 9-12 and must complete at least two semesters of fine arts taken any time in grades 7-12. Students following a career-technical pathway are exempt from the fine arts requirement.

Progression to the next grade level is attained by earning credits for successful completion of courses. Students who have not attained the required credits by the conclusion of summer school may be retained at their current grade level until the end of the next school year. Fourth year students will be retained in their current grade level until sufficient credits have been earned to progress to grade 12 and/or graduation can be attained at the conclusion of that academic year.

Four credits are required to be in grade 10; Ten credits are required to be in grade 11; Sixteen credits are required to be in grade 12; Twenty one credits are required for graduation from LHS.
