  • Full year – Prerequisite of Algebra I CP with a grade of “C” or better or Algebra I with a ’B’ or better and Biology with a “C” or better
  • Grade 11, 12 – Fee

Chemistry College Prep is designed to introduce students to the basic principles and quantitative relationships found in inorganic and physical chemistry. Time is spent developing and understanding modern atomic theory, formula writing, nomenclature, equation balancing, predicting chemical reactions, solution chemistry, periodic law, chemical bonding, and the nature of matter. A major part of this course is devoted to laboratory activities. Most of these laboratory exercises are quantitative in nature. These activities develop the “how much” aspects of chemistry. The importance of careful measurement is emphasized. Due to the emphasis placed on the quantitative nature of classroom and laboratory activities, a good background in basic mathematics is required. This course provides a good background for those students considering further education, particularly if they are science-mathematics oriented. It is recommended that students taking chemistry be currently enrolled in Algebra II.
