Biology Honors is a survey course which uses both laboratory and classroom approaches. Emphasis is placed on using the scientific method to understand and solve problems. Topics studied include cell theory, biochemistry, plants and photosynthesis, taxonomy and adaptation, disease, genetics, ecology, and theories of evolution. Understanding of biological concepts and mastery of scientific techniques and concepts will be stressed. The use of hands-on activities in the laboratory as well as classroom lectures and discussions will be used. Research techniques will be incorporated to develop and refine skills such as observation, data collection, data manipulation, proper equipment use and problem-solving techniques. This course will emphasize the 10th grade content standards.
