897 and 897A – Food Principles – 0.625 credit

This course is an introduction to personal food choices and food preparation, and serves as a great lead into the Culinary Arts career tech program at LHS. Topics include choosing strategies for selecting quality foods, food safety and sanitation, proper equipment use, kitchen math, and an exploration of the current food guide. Experiences involving planning, cooking, and serving food may be part of the class. Selected students (Grades 11 and 12) may participated in this course as part of a recognized Pre-Apprenticeship Program. This may lead to a 12 Point Industry Recognized Credential.
