200 – World Languages & Culture: The Western Wold – 0.5 credit

· Semester - No Prerequisite. Students who were previously ineligible to study a first year language may gain eligibility by receiving an A or B in this course. – Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

World Languages and Culture of The Western World introduces students to both the language and culture of countries located in what is known as The Western World. The course will consist of units focused on multiple countries throughout the region, such as Canada, Spain, Portugal, France, UK, Ireland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, Greece, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Belize, and Brazil. Because there are so many countries in The Western World, there will be opportunities for students to do individual exploration on other lesser known and less populated countries as well.

· Language samples

· Journaling activities

· Home and Family Life

· Map Activities

· Food

· Religion

· Flags

· Brief History
