The major focus of this course is engineering and design, through projects that involve the development of residential and commercial property sites. As students learn about various aspects of civil engineering and architecture, they model the experiences that civil engineers and architects face. Students typically work in teams and use architectural design software to design an affordable home and a commercial structure. Incorporated into these projects are studies of site planning, structural analysis, residential electrical and plumbing systems, land surveying, and soil analysis. Students learn about project documentation, solving problems and communicating their solutions to their peers and members of the professional community of civil engineering and architecture.
