Right to Inspect Records

1. The parents, legal guardians, or ‘of age’ students (18 years or older) may inspect their (student’s) records within 45 days of presenting a written request to do so as is provided in the Family Education Rights to Privacy Act of 1974.

2. Students under the age of 18 may inspect their high school academic transcript but must have written parental permission to see the total record. High School academic record (non-classified information): student’s name, sex, date of birth, address and telephone (if not unlisted), dates of attendance and graduation, courses, grades, credits earned and/or grades of courses in progress, attendance data, student rank in class, if graduated, grade point average (GPA), results of standardized tests taken in grades 9 through 12, name and address of the school (Note: Records of students who have not graduated will not contain all of the items listed.)

3. A school official must be present while any record is inspected to answer questions and to assure the security of the recorded information.

4. If a parent or student wishes to challenge items on the student’s record, they may do so by following a procedure which will be made available to them upon request.
