Auto Technology II

977G– Auto Technology II – 3 credits

Suspension/Steering Systems - This course is designed to teach students the fundamentals of transportation steering and suspension systems, including, component identification, maintenance, diagnostics, and repair. Students will have the opportunity to learn the processes of wheel alignment, static and dynamic wheel balancing, and pressure testing of the steering system. Students will also learn how to diagnose and replace damaged or worn steering and suspension components.

Students will have the opportunity to take the student certification test for Steering and Suspension towards the end of their senior year.

Brake Systems - In this course students will learn to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair drum and disk hydraulic brakes. The course also teaches the fundamentals of air brake assemblies. They will also learn techniques for diagnosing, inspecting and replacing power assisted assemblies and anti-lock braking systems. Students will have the opportunity to perform brake system component replacement and reconditioning.

Students will have the opportunity to take the student certification test for Brakes towards the end of their senior year.

Electrical/Electronics - This course is designed to provide the student with knowledge necessary to diagnose and repair automotive electrical systems, including chassis electrical systems, automobile charging systems, starting systems, and lighting systems. Students will learn the fundamentals of DC electronics including series, parallel, and series-parallel circuits (Ohm's Law). This course will teach the use of electronic diagnostic tools used in the transportation field, read schematics, and utilize printed and electronic repair manuals.

Students will have the opportunity to take the student certification test for Electrical towards the end of their senior year.
