Astronomy is a basic science course including planetarium programs and related work. The student learns how astronomers gather and analyze their data. The topics include telescopes, the moon, planets, stars, and galaxies. The basic processes of science, discovery, classification, precise measurements, and development of theory, are emphasized to show how we understand the motions of the planets and how the stars are born and die. The course covers several ninth through twelfth grade indicators from the Ohio Science Standards. Students have an opportunity to use the school telescopes during optional evening observing sessions.
