Cosmetology I consists of learning the techniques of: shampooing; scalp and hair treatment; principles of hair design; haircutting; hairstyling; braiding; chemical texture; haircoloring; hair removal; manicuring; pedicuring; facials/make-up; shop management; dispensary; receptionist practice; communication skills; safety; and employability skills. The related class covers: scalp & nail care; disorders & diseases; structure & growth; infection control: principles & practices; basics of chemistry; basics of electricity; and general anatomy & physiology. After completing 750 hours of training and passing written & practical certifications, with a 75% score, students will be promoted to clinic level and begin work on clinic patrons. By nature of the skills necessary to be successful cosmetologists, students should possess good aptitudes in manual dexterity, color perception and depth perception.
