Read Online and Download The Jackpot by David Kazzie. A stolen lottery ticket worth $415 million....A young lawyer risking her life to return it to its rightful owner...And two dangerous men who will stop at nothing to find her. It hasn't been a very good day for attorney Samantha Khouri. She's been passed over for partner at her law firm, she's coming down with the flu, and she's just learned that her parents' business is teetering on the brink of failure. But when she discovers that her financially desperate boss has stolen their new client's gigantic winning lottery ticket, she realizes her day is just getting started. Now, to return the ticket to its rightful owner, Samantha must stay one step ahead of her nothing-to-lose boss and a homicidal mercenary who's been hired to hunt down the ticket at all costs. And as her pursuers close in, Samantha can’t help but think about showing up at lottery headquarters, smiling for the camera, and walking away with one of the richest lottery jackpots in American history.
When I started this book, I wasn't sure if I would continue. It starts out in the run down projects, with characters that are rude, crude and scary. And everything you have ever imagined that goes on in these downtrodden neighborhoods happens. Spouse abuse, child neglect, crime, revenge, and finally, violent death. But then by Chapter 3, the story moves to the next step of what turns out to be an unpredictable, wild ride, all because of a little piece of paper - that just happens to have the winning numbers for the biggest lottery win ever. Each character and their back story is introduced in detail. At first, I was getting impatient at the diversions from the main story line, but settled into the rhythm of the author. The technique gave the reader a rest from the intensity of the action in the main story line, and builds the suspense. In short order, I found myself picking up my Kindle at any spare moment, I didn't even try to outguess the ending - I just enjoyed the ride! The negative reviews seem to be focused on the crude language and rough events of the first 2 chapters, and for the people highly offended by language issues, or you can't handle violent acts, you are probably better off to skip this book. But you will be missing out of a very well written story. In my view, it was in keeping with the environment and characters involved. I went from thinking about deleting it un-read, to giving it a top rating, so if you can handle a view of life on the other side and like a good suspenseful ride - I think you will get caught up in this like I did.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. This one was another example of the benefits of having a Kindle - the ability to find quality, enjoyable writing that would be unavailable without e-books. This novel offers an entertaining, though violent, story about people chasing a winning lottery ticket. We've all read about lives ruined by winning the big money but who imagined how many lives can be affected, and even ruined, in the pursuit of the winning ticket? There's actually some light humor intertwined with the violence (good and bad family dynamics, for example) and a nice twist to the tale near the end. All-in-all entertaining and highly recommended!BTW, I was surprised at the number of poor reviews but on reading them I found that the reviewers had more complaints about profanity and (perceived) racism than the actual writing itself. In my opinion the profanity was limited and the author provided realistic dialog and characters for the scenarios presented. My suggestion: read the plot description and check out the sample text provided and if the style is not for you then skip the book. One reviewer panned the book after admittedly reading only "a few pages". That isn't fair to the author or to those who rely on other readers' reviews of actual content to help them select new books.
Started reading and couldn't stop. Characters range from the most loathsome and murderous to lawyers who actually care for their clients and parents who want to give their children a good future. Can winning a half a billion dollar jackpot be the dream that turned into a nightmare? Yes, yes, yes!
I remember when the Power Ball was first introduced and the media hoopla that surrounded huge jackpots. I always used to say that I would never buy a ticket because, with my luck, I would probably win and then have to worry about my kids being kidnapped, etc. I always thought there had to be a downside to winning. The Jackpot by David Kazzie is an exciting read that brought back those memories. What would someone do to get their hands on your unclaimed winning ticket worth hundreds of millions of dollars? The plot alone, good as it is, is not the only reason that I give this five stars. This is a well written book with a lot of character detail. Each of the characters were very well developed and the dialogue rang true throughout the book.
This novel will not leave you disappointed. As a thriller, it attains the objective of entertaining the reader, with lucid and clean style of narrative, coherent plot development, and a reasonably in depth character development. The protagonist, Samantha Khourie, is relatable. The story is interesting and unique, though at times a bit stretched to be believable (especially the second half, where a dangerous killer is on the loose, chasing Samantha and her friend through the city, and try however hard they might to hide, he still manages to catch up with them! And not to forget the nonchalance and regularity with which people simply keep getting killed.). The final twist in the mystery manages to surprise, and the reader comes out of this novel feeling satisfied. Overall, a good read.
