Read Online and Download Protecting My Heart by David Horne. Zeke Mathison had been trying to track down the Ocotillo gang for ages. It was almost impossible. They were just too good at covering their tracks. Added to that, there was all this trouble with them hassling his ex-boyfriend, Tristan Cagle, who had a bakery in the area. He wanted to ask Tristan questions, but he had already ghosted him once because he was scared of what had happened between them. Everyone said it wasn’t wrong to be scared of love. However, running away wouldn’t fix anything. But that’s exactly what he did. With a skittish heart, he had found himself unwilling to leave his bachelor lifestyle. No matter how amazing Tristan was.Did Zeke regret it? More than he cared to admit, but he didn’t know what to do about it. Now he just had to keep Tristan safe. He could figure out what to do with all of these feelings later. However, Zeke’s wish to keep Tristan safe depended on Tristan’s feeling. Can Tristan ever really forgive Zeke for leaving so abruptly and reopen those old wounds? Or will the pain and suffering that both Zeke and Tristan experienced be too much to overcome. Please Note: This book contains adult language and steamy adult activities, it is intended for 18+ Adults Only. Novel, approximately 31,000 words in length. HEA (happy ever after ending). Does not end with a "cliffhanger." Themes includes: Bad boy, urban, MM Romance, Cop Romance, bakery, inner city
Author David Horne continues his endless stream of ideas for gay romance novels. The consistently high quality of his novels has brought him success in writing Gay Romances and he has gathered a solid following of readers. How does his growth as an author show? By his lack of fear in taking on themes that include the various forms of isolation, resonances of the past arising in the present with the concomitant confusion of emotional responses – both positive and negative, finding a path for his romantic leads to explore not only each other’s expectations but also the peripheral surprises that life deals us – and how we overcome them.David offers a tale of love abandoned and re-sought and regained in a very sensitive story. His ability to capture personalities realistically is obvious in his opening: “Zeke Mathison grunted as he examined the bags under his eyes. The bathroom mirror told no lies about the state he was in. A few extra drinks the night before and it was going to be another long day at work. Maybe he shouldn’t have done it, but there was no going back now. It had been a fun night, but was it really worth it? He answered his own question as soon as he asked it. “Totally worth it.†He paused for a moment, considering taking one of the many sick days that he had piled up, but the thought was quickly pushed aside. Zeke didn’t just lie down and give up. That wasn’t the man that he wanted to be. However, he knew better than to let anyone see him like this. He settled a pair of sunglasses over his eyes. “Better,†Zeke mumbled as he looked himself over once again. He’d modeled himself off of the rogue cops he’d been watching on television since he was a child. It often resulted in a gentle teasing, but he didn’t let that get him down. It was the outfit that made him feel powerful, with that old leather jacket and a black t-shirt.’The story – ‘Zeke Mathison had been trying to track down the Ocotillo gang for ages. However, Zeke’s wish to keep Tristan safe depended on Tristan’s feeling. Can Tristan ever really forgive Zeke for leaving so abruptly and reopen those old wounds? Or will the pain and suffering that both Zeke and Tristan experienced be too much to overcome?’David knows this terrain and shares it well. This is one fine little novel – a story that relates to everyone. Grady Harp, January 20I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book
I like the characters Zeke and Tristan. They have history but haven’t seen each other in a long time. Also Zeke's partner is a hoot. When someone is out to get Tristan, Zeke, who is a cop, jumps in to protect him and tries to find out who is causing him troubles and trying to destroy his business. Between starting to fall for one another and trying to keep themselves alive this is what kept me not wanting to put this book down. I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
Was a little slow at start, but still awesome. What started with so many questions about why they broke up the first time. But, told the news that love can conquer so much.
